In the Kerala Higher Secondary Education system, the term “Double Pass” has become increasingly relevant for Plus One (Class 11) students. But what exactly does it mean? This guide explains everything students and parents need to know.
A Double Pass means that a student has successfully passed both:
To understand this, you need to know that student performance in Plus One is evaluated based on two main components:
Component | Description |
---|---|
Internal Assessment | Conducted by the school (e.g., unit tests, assignments, lab work, attendance, project work) |
Board Exam | Final Plus One public exam conducted by DHSE Kerala |
If a student passes both the internal and external parts of the evaluation, they are said to have achieved a "double pass".
The regular Plus One annual examination, and the improvement examination (if opted for the same subject in the same academic year).
This allows students to retain their pass status while trying to improve their scores without losing an academic year.
You pass the subject in the main exam, and You also pass the same subject again in the improvement exam.
Even if your improvement mark is lower than your original score, your original mark will be considered. This gives students a second chance without risk.
Students who have passed all subjects in Plus One.
Only in the same academic year.
You can apply for up to three subjects for improvement.
You must pass in the regular exam first.
Improvement marks are considered only if they are higher than the original.
You cannot apply for improvement if you fail the regular exam.
Improvement exams are usually conducted within a couple of months after the Plus One results are published. The DHSE Kerala will release a separate notification with the application dates and exam schedule.
The Double Pass system in Plus One is a golden opportunity for students who want to improve their marks without any academic loss. It motivates students to aim higher while ensuring that their original success is protected.
So if you're confident you can do better—go for it. It's your chance to shine!
